Mrs. Ouida C. Smith, age 72, died Tuesday, February 20, 2007 afternoon at Loris Community Hospital following an illness. Born Sept. 25, 1934 in Loris, SC, Mrs. Smith was the widow of Gene Tunney Smith, and the daughter of the late William Franklin Cox and the late Cora Bell Edge Cox. Mrs. Ouida worked with both Cato’s and Talon Manufacturing, was a homemaker and a member of Glendale Baptist Church.


Survivors include two daughters; Linna Paul, and husband Eddie, of Summerton, SC, and Laura Cooke, and husband Richard, of Conway, SC ; three grandchildren: Aften P. Briggs, Gene C. Cooke, and Ed Paul, III; and one great grandson: Mitchell C. Briggs, Jr. Mrs. Smith was predeceased by eight sisters and three brothers.


Funeral services were Friday, February 23, 2007 afternoon at 3:00PM from the Hardwick Memorial Chapel with committal services following at Twin City Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Reverend W. H. Morris and Reverend Mark Stevens officiated services. Visitation was Thursday, February 22, 2007 from 6:00 until 8:00PM at Hardwick Funeral Home. Memorials were made to the American Lung Association, 1817 Gadsen Street, Columbia, SC 29201.
